Balloon Tamponade for Variceal Haemorrhage: A Practical Approach

Balloon Tamponade for Variceal Haemorrhage: A Practical Approach

Abstract

Balloon tamponade with compression tubes is used to stabilise life-threatening variceal bleeds when first-line endotherapy has failed and acts as a bridge to early definitive therapy.

We present an overview of the use of compression tubes for variceal haemorrhage with a focus on insertion technique and aftercare.
